Photography Update

Posted by – June 25, 2009

I've been making an effort to get back into photography this year -- I had a lot of fun with it in the past, so I'm trying to get out and do more of it again.  I'm also hoping to get some opportunities to combine that with my swing dancing hobbies, but we'll see... I don't really have the flash gear that would be necessary to pull off those photos in most dance halls.

Speaking of gear, I did replace my aging Canon Digital Rebel (300D) with a brand spanking new Canon Digital Rebel XSi.  I'm pretty satisfied with it -- it has double the megapixels, a nicer screen for doing quick shot reviews, and more features in general.  I particularly like that it shows the current shooting settings on the LCD screen; I wear glasses so it's nice not having to squint into the viewfinder to see that info.

I've also decided that I'm no longer going to host my own gallery -- it's just too much of a hassle.  As a result, I set up an account over at smugmug and I'm quite happy with it.

I took a trip to Cincinnati recently, which had two nice results:

Unfortunately, the panorama still needs a bit of work -- I don't think all of the colors are matched up quite right, and I think I'm going to have to spend some time in Photoshop getting that all matched up -- I screwed up when I took the photos and used aperture priority instead of full manual, so they all metered a bit differently... live and learn, I guess.

  • @chmullig That's too reasonable and would make way too much sense, so AT&T will never do it. #

  • RT @segphault: Wow, Digsby is REALLY abusive: http://is.gd/Z4pq & http://is.gd/Z4pU That kind of malware behavior shouldn't be tolerated. #
  • @jeremydmiller I think that's true of a lot of peoples' code, really. I'm sure it's true of a lot more of mine than I'd really like. :) #
  • @qrush Thanks for mentioning that, I'm always looking for good monospaced fonts :) #

  • @DigiMatt @optimism @aurich @ejacqui I don't post in Lounge/VR much anymore, partly because of this. Mostly hang in A/V, Mac Ach & irc now. #
  • @MightySquid If you have an iPhone and want portability, I'd look at the Kindle iPhone app... #
  • @MightySquid Interesting, I use Stanza pretty heavily and find it comfortable, does the Kindle App allow font size adjustments? in reply to MightySquid #
  • @jeremydmiller @nkohari I've never worked with FORTRAN -- is it as horrible as COBOL? I've tried to scrub COBOL out of my brain... #
